My work serves as a devotional practice, feeling for the edges of emotions and how far they can go. I contend with the profound experiences of grief, unconditional love, and confusion; I find a lot of processing happens in weaving a spiral between human turmoil and the surrendering innocence in our natural environment. Meticulous arrangements of shapes and colors and seemingly unrelated juxtapositions find themselves home in my own form of narration. These stories often contain figures, creatures, and objects intimately sharing a space. This is a continuous exploration of the complex barriers of communication, empathy, and connection. Can we experience grief the same way we do a blooming flower?
Today, I continue the search for balance and understanding by piecing together fragments of memories, current global crises, and the ethereal. Recently, my intrigue has inspired research of displacement, technological surveillance, and the spiritual relationship between human and natural environment. My visions are painted in watercolor, gouache, pastels, and sculpture. The bright palette I utilize brings comfort in childhood nostalgia and playfulness even amongst themes of great suffering.
